Lighting the Lamp in Orakzai
In the remote valleys of Orakzai, nestled within the rugged terrain of FATA KPK, a quiet revolution was brewing not in the streets, but in the heart of a young girl named Tanwil Begum. Born into a modest household, where her father served in the agriculture department and her mother nurtured the family with love and resilience, Tanwil's dreams were never extravagant. They were simple, yet profound: to learn, to grow, and to uplift.
Education was her sanctuary. From primary school to higher secondary, she excelled in her studies despite limited resources and societal expectations. But the real turning point came when her college principal urged her to attend a seminar by CDC Sukkur IBA University. That moment sparked a fire. She applied to the OGDC-sponsored National Talent Hunt Program (NTHP) for the 2019–2020 batch and was selected.
It was a moment of triumph, but also of fear. As the only girl from her area venturing far from home, the journey to Sukkur IBA was daunting. Her parents, though worried, chose courage over caution. They let her go not just to a university, but toward a future they had always hoped for her.
At Sukkur IBA, Tanwil blossomed. The environment was nurturing, the faculty encouraging, and her peers inspiring. She found her voice literally when she won a TED Talk competition, earning a laptop from OGDC. For the first time, she felt truly seen.
After graduating in Spring 2024, she faced another crossroad: pursue further studies or support her family. She chose the latter, taking up a paid internship at Sukkur IBA. But the stipend couldn't cover her expenses, and she had to resign. What followed were months of uncertainty, over 50 job applications, and countless rejections. Her confidence wavered, but her resolve never did.
Then came a glimmer of hope. She applied to OGDC the very organization that had once invested in her potential. She passed the test, aced the interview, and received the call that changed everything: she had been selected as a Management Trainee Officer.
From a quiet village in Orakzai to the corridors of one of Pakistan's most prestigious companies, Tanwil's journey is a testament to the power of opportunity, perseverance, and belief. OGDC's NTHP didn't just fund her education it ignited a future.
Today, Tanwil stands tall not just as an employee, but as a symbol of what happens when talent meets trust. Her story is not just hers alone; it's the story of every girl who dares to dream, and every organization that chooses to believe.
